Dear Friends at Countryside Bible Chapel,
The new Bible study that I mentioned last month in the Clark County Detention Center has been a blessing. Last week eight men attended, and we had an unusually good time of discussion. One of the young men (his name is Thomas), spoke openly about his heroin habit and said that he just dreamed about that needle that was waiting for him. He became more honest and said that it would probably be an overdose and that he really wanted to die. I stopped the study and asked all to pray for Thomas, asking God to intervene in his life delivering him and giving him hope. After prayer, several men began sharing with him about their drug habits, and in a wonderful way shared how Jesus Christ had delivered them and they now have hope in Him. The Holy Spirit led this in a special way, and I could see Thomas beginning to understand how much he was loved by God and that there really was hope for him.
Next week I will be starting another weekly Bible study in a “high custody unit.â€Â We have several of these where volunteers are not allowed to go. I am looking forward to the Lord’s work, through His Word, in the lives of more of these needy men. Pray for this.
The ministry at the new prison called, “Casa Grande†is going well. This is a transitional facility for men who have been in the system for a long time. They will get help in their move from prison to the community (jobs, places to live, savings account, and many other things will be covered). Most important will be programs dealing with substance abuse and related things. Best of all it is a great privilege to be able to assist these men, helping them to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and getting them involved in a good local church. There is a genuine hunger for a meaningful relationship with our awesome God. I have an opportunity to be the Chaplain at this facility (no pay involved). This gives me the privilege of overseeing all of the religious programs and planning for them. I will also be helping to network with churches, hoping to encourage business men and women to hire the residents. I expect to spend two days per week at this prison.
Thank you for your gift to this ministry. You are a real blessing to me. May the Lord God richly bless you.Â
Looking for His Soon Return,
Donald Moberger, Southwest Prison Ministries
