Mission News

Let’s praise God as He has answered several big-time prayers that we have petitioned Him for in the last few months:

Yesterday I received approval for Southwest Prison Ministries, Inc., as a 501 (c) (3) organization from the IRS.  We first requested this back in August 2005.  We are extremely grateful to God for getting us this approval.
Dorie Peterson recently received a $1000.00 gift and a promise of continued support at the rate of $400.00 per month (Dorie heads up our Women’s Prison Ministry).  Also there are several organizations wiling to give financial support to us now that we are 501 (c) (3) approved.

I have three new volunteers for the 6th floor units in the south tower at the Clark County Detention Center.  Bob Beveridge, Pastor at Calvary Chapel Spring Valley will be heading this up and the others will be from his church.  They will be covering two units on Friday evenings.

We received final approval for the new weekly Worship Service/Bible Study at High Desert State Prison in Indian  Springs.  This is the Youth Unit (ages 14 to 21).  This is a unique break for the Gospel there-badly needed.  Irene Hunt and a team of 4 others are heading this up.  The first meeting we had 36 young men in attendance.  The warden allowed a guitar, violin and omnicord in (normally no instruments are allowed in the prison).  It was truly a blessed night, glory to God!

The new Friday night Bible study in the Women’s Unit at the Clark County Detention Center is going well, led by Clara and Chris Reed.  She is the nurse that I met in the hospital (the one that came in and prayed for me)!  Clara is an excellent teacher with a real heart for the Lord and incarcerated women.  Chris, her husband, is a great helper.  Together they make a neat team.

I had an excellent meeting with the new Warden (Leonard Vare), at the Southern Nevada Correctional Center in Jean.  He is wide open to suggestions for a new Chaplain.  This is the unit where they will move young men (ages 14-21), from High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs next August. The position is a paid position, full time, a great opportunity for a person who can work and minister to young people.  A chaplain, that the Lord appoints, is critical here!  Let’s really remember to hold this need before the Throne of Grace.

There are many other ways that God is answering our prayers.  The important thing is to remain encouraged at all times, and keep praying till Jesus returns.

May God richly bless all you “prayer warriors”.
