New England Prison Ministry

Dear Friend,

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a Shepherd.” Matt.9:36

Kate and I witnessed the baptism of 30, yes “thirty” - women into the body of Christ last Saturday afternoon at MCI Framingham. What a day that was! A day of joy, a day of blessing, a day of new beginnings. Lots of tears, lots of smiles. I can’t begin to explain how much this meant to those women– and to the volunteers who were present. As Rev. Lucy Marshall, the Chaplain, pointed out-these were flowers that grew from seeds we had planted along the way.

As we waited for the service to begin a woman sat down next to me. “I’m Judy, I’m only here to see a friend get baptized,” she explained, “I understand this Jesus guy knew a little about suffering.” I assured her he did. “I just got out of suicide watch,” she volunteered as she showed me a gaping hole in her arm. “I messed it up this time, but I’ll get it right one of these days.” Pray for Judy. Only Jesus can heal a heart this broken, a life this hopeless. Pray that she will be among those on the stage at the Baptism Service next year.

God answers prayers. Last winter, the Spirit spoke to my heart about using radio as a means of reaching inmates and churches. At the time, the need to buy equipment and air time, a lack of technical knowledge and a shortage of time to prepare and polish regular messages held me back. Last month, Pastor Frank Tamilio, of Amazing Grace Ministries suggested that we collaborate to produce a short segment on his daily, syndicated radio show “Selah”. We’ve been on the air for several weeks now and the response has been great. You can catch Pastor Frank and I on Selah radio show on Saturday, 7:00PM-8:00PM, and Monday 10:00PM-11:00PM on WEZE AM 590.

Every day, I am reminded of God’s grace, not only in calling me to this work, but in expanding and providing for it. Without His help it would be impossible. Join me in giving thanks for His blessings and praying for His wisdom and guidance. Thank you for your help-for your prayers, your encouragement and your financial support. If you have not joined the ministry I hope you’ll consider it today. I invite you to be part of one of the most exciting, powerful and productive ministries in New England.

Much grace and many blessings,

Mark Hemenway, Director
